Details: The purpose of the Allegan County Resource Development Committee (ACRDC) is to combat the causes and effects of human suffering and poverty in Allegan County, Michigan. ACRDC is a private, non-profit Community Action Agency - part of a state and national network of Community Action Agencies. On June 11, 1968, the Allegan County Board of Supervisors, now the Allegan County Commissioners, designated the Allegan County Resource Development Committee, Inc. (ACRDC) as the Community Action Agency for Allegan County under the provision of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, as amended in 1967. The purpose of the Economic Opportunity Act was to mobilize the human and financial resources of the nation to combat poverty in the United States. With the designation of a Community Action Agency, ACRDC was entitled to receive federal funds from the Community Services Administration to provide services to the residents of Allegan County. ACRDC is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board of Directors provides equal representation from the public, private and low-income sectors of Allegan County. ACRDC, via its' Board of Directors, has worked diligently for the past 40 years serving the residents of Allegan County. The agency utilizes federal and state grants as well as dollars from local private and public resources to provide a wide variety of services. These services assist qualified Allegan County residents of all ages ranging from pregnant mothers to the elderly.
