Details: General Assistance is a cooperative effort between the Township and residents who have limited resources or none. General Assistance provides for the basic needs of residents who are unemployed or disabled and who have no other forms of income or assets. New Trier Township administers General Assistance on a needs allowance basis, meaning that the need must exist before funds are provided. General Assistance may also cover medical benefits as defined by Township guidelines. To be eligible for assistance you must be a Township resident 18 years of age or older who is without income and ineligible for any other forms of assistance. Emergency Assistance is available once during a twelve-month period to residents facing a financial crisis. Township residents--individuals or families--who are facing an emergency financial challenge (such as job loss, illness, disability or other unanticipated crisis) and who meet net income eligibility guidelines, may be eligible to receive assistance. Angel Fund Assistance is available to residents facing an emergency financial challenge, such as the possibility of having their electricity turned off. Residents facing a challenge that falls into the defined categories -such as shelter, utility, or medical--and who do not meet the eligibility criteria for Emergency or General Assistance, may be eligible to receive assistance from the Township's Angel Fund.
