Catholic Urban Programs - Human Services Office - Non-Profit Organization

Details: To fulfill the mission of CUP, the purpose of the Human Services Offices is to provide emergency food, assist with utility bills and housing costs, and serve as an advocate for those seeking employment, government assistance, and/or medical services. The Human Services Office provides emergency basic needs assistance to people in need. It assists individuals and families through difficult financial and emotional times by providing emergency financial, material, and other supportive assistance. The Human Services Office has a food pantry that is both an emergency food pantry and a monthly food pantry. Households can receive a food box once a month, with the possibility of additional assistance if there is a delay in income or benefits. When emergencies arise, such as fire, eviction, sudden illness, or a death in the family, the Human Services Office can offer many other services to meet emergency needs. Outside of emergency services, several hundred people are served with help to obtain or maintain employment. This includes help obtaining uniforms, bus tickets, gas cards, etc. Tuition and book payments can be offered to those finishing their education. The Human Services Office provides seasonal gifts for children and the elderly each Christmas. Additionally, group meals are provided at Christmas and Easter for the public. A senior “picnic” is held each summer. After basic needs are met, the Human Services Office strives to link people to programs that will help them to move to a more self-determined life style
