Latest Reviews, Comments, Questions for Charlotte Area Fund Inc.

Comment from Charlotte Area Fund Inc.: Good Afternoon, My name is Yolanda B Cummings. I am a former Federal Employee for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Philadelphia up until September 15, 2018. I was the Executive Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer and Associate Director. Through the years I had become disillusioned with the Federal Government in its treatment of Veterans, Women and others which fall into various categories. One day…I looked around and realized that I wasn’t tied to Philadelphia, especially since I was not married nor had children. At this particular time, I was also due to renew my lease on my previous apartment in New Jersey. I wanted to purchase a single-family home instead of continued apartment living. I wanted to get the most for my money on a home since Jersey has the highest taxes, so I began my search in the South. I began a search between Virginia and Texas in search for another Federal position. I searched and searched and found nothing. This is where it gets a little tricky for some…. I felt like I was being led to resign from Federal Service altogether and to pursue the expansion of my Home-Based Business, Zekariahs Printing and Greeting Card Design. I love my business. The Lord gave it go me when I became sick and incapacitated. I couldn’t work any longer and the possibility of returning back to work was growing. Because I was not used to the idea of not working, I kept pursuing things I could do from home for an income. Through the process of elimination, prayer and incredible creativity that I didn’t know I had, Zekariahs was born (pronounced Ze – Kar- iahs). Like I said, at this time I was watching my life and my body deteriorate day by day from an illness my physicians were uncertain as to origin. But the Lord gave me Zekariahs, which means by the way, The Lord Remembers, in Hebrew. I took this as His way of letting me know that not only did He see my plight but remembered His promises to me. So now I began to look for homes and not necessarily for jobs. Incidentally, I brought my Assistant with me. I didn’t intend to bring her at the outset since I wasn’t sure of my situation but ‘coincidentally’ she found herself without housing, so reluctantly agreed for her to come with me. I left Jersey on September 29 arriving in Statesville, NC approximately 9 hours later. Since this day, we have lived from hotel to hotel awaiting and expecting housing. Now I would be the first person to tell you now…..there were many things that I did not consider in this move. I didn’t account that with no employment I would not be eligible for any type of financing, etc. It was never my intention to rely on financing since I was assured I would have the resources. However, all of the savings I had, have now been depleted on hotels, food, bills, necessities and car rentals. I don’t have a car either which I also expected to have been able to afford in this move. I’ve expended several thousand dollars in this move and have totally depleted all of my finances. I left home believing money that was granted to me via an inheritance would be available. I only left Jersey based on the reassurance that I would have the resources. If the resources were not available, I would not have left Jersey, I would have waited…. waited before I left my job or my apartment. Now, with my last money, I paid for the last 2 nights of stay at Woodpring Suites in Matthews, NC. On Monday, we have to check out with no money and nowhere to go with all of our belongings. I’m out of my comfort zone and have no idea what to do or to whom to turn. I don’t have family or anyone back in Jersey who could help me. I’m not sure what your office provides, but I seek your assistance and the help of your office. I have been looking for employment and applying for the last two weeks with no success as of yet. I have to check out by 11am on Monday. I just found your information on Friday. If there are emergency funds which can be used to extend out stay, I ask that you please do so. I am in pursuit of employment. I had applied for Unemployment Benefits from Philadelphia but I was denied. I guess because I voluntarily left a job to relocate. I know this may appear strange to you or crazy, but I believed it and was assured that all would be well… You can reach me at (609)319-0646. If you call and I don’t answer please leave a message & I will call you directly back. Thanks in advance for any assistance. --Yolanda B. Cummings
