Details: The Cortland Housing Authority runs several federally subsidized housing developments (42 Church Street and 51 Port Watson Street for handicapped individuals and seniors), and a leased housing program. Rents for both the senior apartments and the leased housing program are subsidized. If an application is approved, approximately 30% of monthly income (less certain deductions) will be paid by the tenant for rent. In the leased housing program (Section 8), a person lives in a privately leased apartment. The landlord must be willing to participate, and receives part of the rent from the tenant and part from the Housing Authority. The Housing Authority must also inspect and approve the apartment.
