Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund, Inc. - HIV/AIDS Organization

Details: Early in 1991, a small group of concerned Oklahomans came together to discuss ways to help the growing number of individuals living with HIV/AIDS in our state. At that time, HIV/AIDS was a new and poorly understood disease; however several national organizations (led by high-profile celebrities) were beginning to raise money to fund HIV/AIDS research. At the same time, little help was available to those already dealing with the disease, and virtually nothing existed to help individuals in Oklahoma. By the end of the year, the Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund had been formed for the purpose of raising local money to help local people. Since 1992, our annual Red Tie Night has contributed over $11 million to assist Oklahomans living with HIV/AIDS.

Services Available: Individual Emergency Assistance Program - Funds from the program are used to help prevent homelessness by aiding individuals with new rental expenses, past due rent, and/or essential utilities. In addition, funds may be used for out-of-pocket emergency medical and medication expenses and emergency food needs.
