Details: Proteus, Inc. is an Iowa-based private, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has been serving migrant and seasonal farmworkers, immigrants, and others since 1979. Proteus has been serving the Hispanic and Latino communities in Iowa for more than 30 years through grant related funding. The Homeless Assistance Project offers assistance with emergency rent, food and clothing, with counseling and referrals to other agencies in the Greater Des Moines area. Proteus’ bilingual and bicultural case manager conducts interviews to determine the need of services based on the client’s level of need. All clients are informed of other available resources, as a way to ensure that food and clothing needs are met on an ongoing basis, as a client is only allowed to use the rental assistance once every two years and visit the Food Pantry monthly.
