Town of Bowdoin - General Assistance - Locally Administered Financial Assistance Program

Details: The General Assistance program in Maine is administered by each town and city in order to provide immediate financial assistance to help people who do not have enough money for their basic needs, such as, rent/mortgage, food, fuel and other items that are essential to maintain a household. The assistance is provided in the form of a voucher, which is mailed to the specific vendor. Assistance is granted for 30 days or less and must be applied for. Decisions will be made within 24 hours of receipt. Emergency General Assistance may be available for those individuals who otherwise may not be eligible for regular General Assistance. If you receive General Assistance you will be required to repay the municipality if and when you are able to do so.
