Town of Lisbon - General Assistance - Locally Administered Financial Assistance Program

Details: The General Assistance Program provides basic needs for eligible applicants in the areas of rent, medications, fuel, utilities and other services essential to maintaining individuals or families who are Lisbon residents. A determination of eligibility is made for a thirty-day period based on anticipated earnings. All communities are required by law to provide General Assistance. All assistance is granted in voucher form and no cash assistance is issued. General Assistance recipients are expected to meet all eligibility requirements, established by the Department of Human Services, when requesting assistance. All applicants are given additional information on what other resources are available to them. The program is audited on a yearly basis by the Department of Human Services to ensure that the Town of Lisbon is in compliance with state statutes and DHS policy. The Town receives a 50% reimbursement from the state for General Assistance costs. The General Assistance Department also provides assistance to the elderly in completing various forms (Tax and Rent Rebate, Medicaid, Food stamps, etc)
